Hi, here Carolina. I would like to join the medical imaging program in my next semester. Medical imaging consists in using equipment like an ultrasound machine to make a report about the situation of his patient based of what he see with his scanner. Precisely this glossary, is for the people like me that would like to join this program and then learn more about it and the different words that they should know.
anatomy
noun
The branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals, and other living organisms, especially as revealed by dissection and the separation of parts.
Example: Reassurance and explanation: The symptoms she was experiencing were explained to her, in terms of the anatomy of the hand and reasons for her symptoms.
fr: anatomie
biology
noun
The study of living organisms, divided into many specialized fields that cover their morphology, physiology, anatomy, behavior, origin, and distribution.
Example: Biology is the study of life. Its scope extends from molecules to organisms and ecosystems.
fr: biologie
breast
noun
Either of the two soft, protruding organs on the upper front of a woman's body that secrete milk after pregnancy.
Example: It is also worth mentioning that "scientific and medical journals increasingly report the risks posed to human health by pesticides, including links between pesticides and diseases such as breast cancer and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma" (Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development of Canada, 2002).
fr: poitrine
detection
noun
The action or process of identifying the presence of something concealed.
Example: Research has identified that early detection of relapse symptoms provides opportunity for early intervention to reduce the severity or at best inhibit the trajectory toward relapse.
fr: détection
diagnosis
noun
The identification of the nature of an illness or other problem by examination of the symptoms.
Example: Burden M (2003) Diabetes: signs, symptoms and making a diagnosis.
fr: diagnostic
equipment
noun
The necessary items for a particular purpose.
Example: The staffs need to have the appropriate equipment providing protection against chemicals.
fr: équipement
exam
noun
A medical test of a specified kind.
Example: Physical examination will include a general exam and focused exams of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
fr: examen
fetus
noun
An unborn offspring of a mammal, in particular an unborn human baby more than eight weeks after conception.
Example: All of these tests are able to determine whether or not the fetus has the same genetic changes already found in the affected child.
fr: fœtus
frequency
noun
The rate at which a vibration occurs that constitutes a wave, either in a material (as in sound waves), or in an electromagnetic field (as in radio waves and light), usually measured per second.
Example: Frequencies higher than 20 kHz are referred to as ultrasound. Diagnostic medical ultrasonography usually uses transducers with frequencies of 1-20 MHz.
fr: fréquence
gel
noun
A thick, clear, slightly sticky substance, especially one used in cosmetic or medicinal products.
Example: World Standard for Medical Ultrasound Transmission, AQUASONIC 100 is the most widely used gel for diagnostic and therapeutic medical ultrasound.
fr: gel
imaging
noun
The process of making a visual representation of something by scanning it with a detector or electromagnetic beam.
Example: We offer medical imaging services in Quebec and timely, flexible appointments for a wide range of procedures critical to early disease detection.
fr: imagerie
magnetic resonance imaging
phrase
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to form pictures of the anatomy and the physiological processes of the body.
Example: Future directions for detection of coronary reperfusion after thrombolytic therapy Coronary echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Cardiac Computed Tomography scanner (CT) and transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (TTDE) are just some of the emerging techniques used by clinicians to accurately evaluate IRA patency, providing information on coronary reperfusion.
fr: imagerie par résonance magnétique
mammary
adjective
Denoting or relating to the human female breasts or the milk-secreting organs of other mammals.
Example: History of presenting complaint: Mr had been complaining of a vague tingling in his left infra-mammary region of his chest for a week prior to admission to hospital.
fr: mammaire
medical
adjective
Relating to the science of medicine, or to the treatment of illness and injuries.
Example: In particular she denies any previous sexually transmitted disease or pelvic inflammatory disease Past medical history: Radial fracture .
fr: médical
monitoring
verb
Check or regulate the technical quality.
Example: CXR and ECG, and if the patient is in AF arrange for cardiac monitoring.
fr: surveillance
musculoskeletal
Relating to or denoting the musculature and skeleton together.
Example: The occasional chest pain is therefore either musculoskeletal due to the increased respiratory effort, or respiratory in origin.
fr: musculo-squelettique
patients
noun
A person receiving or registered to receive medical treatment.
Example: Therefore the polymerase chain reaction can be a useful tool in making the treatment HIV patients receives more efficient.
fr: patients
pregnant

Of a woman or female animal) having a child or young developing in the uterus.
Example: Miss found a new partner, and quickly fell pregnant with . 's father works full-time as a trainee paint-sprayer at a local car factory.

Example: Following this report the most likely cause for this patient's localised pain in the dorsal region of the foot was obstruction of the posterior tibial, secondary to an embolus derived from within the popliteal aneurysm.
fr: rapport
scanner
A machine that examines the body through the use of radiation, ultrasound, or magnetic resonance imaging, as a diagnostic aid.
Example: Figure 5.1 Comparison of ultrasound images (31) USS is however less useful for areas of general "lumpiness" where there is no discrete abnormality to feel, as the quality of the image is restricted by the resolution of the scanner and the operator's experience (8).
fr: scanner
ultrasound
noun
Sound or other vibrations having an ultrasonic frequency, particularly as used in medical imaging.
Example: To confirm the diagnosis a bHCG test and ultrasound is required.
